RULES
- All persons on board the boat must be registered in the tournament and carry a printed copy of their sport fishing permit, which can be obtained online at the following link:
https://tramites.ebajacalifornia.gob.mx/ventanillaunica/tramites/pesca
- The format of this tournament is team-based, and at all times, the official representative for registration purposes will be the person authorized to address any issues related to registration, weighing, awarding, or official protests, by contacting the “OFFICIAL COMMITTEE.” Once a team is officially registered with its name and registration number, this information cannot be modified.
- To promote family participation, teams may be composed of mixed members including women, children aged 8 to 14 years, and adults in general. Since the awards are given by team, if the team wins 1st to 3rd place…
- For the registration to be fully valid, the team’s official representative must submit the tournament registration payment along with the fees for any Jackpot options chosen. Payment can be made through the methods provided by the organizer: website, bank transfer, or credit card link.
It is mandatory to present valid sport fishing licenses for each person registered on the boat. Once all requirements are met, a registration confirmation receipt will be issued, along with the official rules and regulations and wristbands with the team number assigned by the tournament.
- The decision of the “SCALE JUDGE” and, if applicable, the “OFFICIAL COMMITTEE” assembled for the Championship is final and binding. Any disobedience or disrespect towards their decision may result in disqualification.
- It is the obligation of all participants to carefully review the Rules and Regulations, and at least one team representative must be present at the captains’ meeting. If not, the team is considered to have accepted the agreements made during that meeting, including any modifications to these regulations.
- The fishing gear to be used is at the team’s discretion, as well as the type of line, except for the use of electric reels, which are not permitted.
- It is the responsibility of each participating team, through its official representative, to present their catches on the scale. After being registered, the catches will be returned to them.
In the case of catch-and-release videos, the representative must inform the organizers that they have videos and present them at the registration desk, where they will be reviewed.
- The weigh-in registration desk will provide the team representative with their weigh-in receipt. It is the representative’s responsibility to verify that the information (team number, weigh-in time, weight, and score) is correct. No modifications will be accepted afterward, except in the case of a registration system error, for which the team representative must present the original copy of the weigh-in in question.
- During fishing, once the fish bites the bait or lure and is hooked, it must be fought and brought close to the boat using only the reel, rod, and line. No one may assist the angler while fighting the fish, except to help with a net to bring it aboard.
For bottom species fishing, only one rod with a single hook may be used, provided that this hook is not part of the lure, understanding that for trolling or casting, lures typically use one or two treble hooks.
- No courtesy fish will be weighed, and only one fish per fishing category will be weighed for each team, which must be chosen by the team. For the awards, the total weight resulting from the sum in pounds of the two species presented (one bottom and one surface) will be considered. In case of a tie, the team that first registered their catches on time and properly with the “SCALE JUDGE” will be declared the winner.
- For catch registration, teams must present themselves in person before the “SCALE JUDGE”, showing their registration wristband. It is prohibited to present catches that arrive at the weigh-in area by land, even in cases of force majeure or unforeseen circumstances.
- Boat departures will be at 6:00 AM. The scale will open from 1:30 PM and close at 4:00 PM. The “SCALE JUDGE” will not accept or weigh any fish after the scale has officially closed according to the tournament’s official clock. Once the scale is closed, only anglers already in line waiting to weigh their catches will be registered.
There will be an official clock in a visible location for everyone, which the judge and competing teams must follow.
- The “OFFICIAL COMMITTEE” is NOT responsible for any accidents that participating teams may have before, during, or after the tournament. Therefore, the teams and participating anglers with their boats enter the competition AT THEIR OWN RISK.
AT THEIR OWN RISK.
- The tournament may be canceled due to force majeure, such as bad weather or port closure by the competent authority, always prioritizing the safety of the participants and the general public.
- All teams must have digital video files of at least 25 seconds showing the fight with the fish, the moment of capture, and the moment the fish is brought onto the boat. The video must show the entire fish for at least 7 seconds. The video must be set with the correct date and time, and must clearly display the assigned code (the printed number for the boat and the angler’s wristband). Additionally, two photographs of the catches presented at the scale must be provided.
This is required in case a formal protest is made or at the sole discretion of the “SCALE JUDGE”, who may impose sanctions if any violation is confirmed. However, if the participating team presents a video shorter than the time established in this rule, it will not be grounds for disqualification as long as it meets the fishing content requested by this rule and there is no doubt that the catch and fishing technique are correct and legal.
- Teams that place from 1st to 3rd in the Jackpot category are required to present and submit to the official tournament committee the aforementioned videos and photographs, which will be reviewed after 30 minutes have passed since the last team in the weigh-in line has registered their catches. The names of the teams and/or their representatives required to submit the files at the review table will be announced during the 30 minutes following the official weigh-in closing. Therefore, all teams that have registered their weigh-ins are strictly required to remain in the weigh-in area. Teams that fail to comply with this requirement will be disqualified, meaning they will forfeit any right to prizes and scoring. In the event a team is disqualified for the reasons mentioned above, fishing evidence may be accepted from the 4th up to the 6th place team; otherwise, the prize will be declared void.
- Any team that has a complaint or detects any irregularity committed by a participant from another team must report it personally with any evidence they can present to support their complaint. This must be submitted in writing using the official protest form assigned by the official committee and signed no later than 30 minutes after the weigh-in closes, accompanied by a deposit of $5,000.00 MXN (Five Thousand Pesos 00/100 M.N.). The “WEIGHMASTER” and/or the “OFFICIAL COMMITTEE” constituted for this purpose are obligated to conduct the pertinent investigations and, if applicable, sanction the infraction before the awards ceremony. If the complaint is upheld, the deposit will be refunded.
For the verification of digital files submitted as evidence, the “WEIGHMASTER” and/or the “OFFICIAL COMMITTEE” or their representative, a representative of the complaining team, and a representative of the team accused of the infraction must be present. The “OFFICIAL COMMITTEE” will prepare a resolution document regarding the protest, which must contain the handwritten signatures of the participants. The absence of signatures from either the complaining team or the accused team does not invalidate the ruling.
- By order of the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), and for personal safety, it is mandatory to have safety equipment on board the vessel, with the VHF radio turned on and tuned to the previously assigned frequency, which is authorized for all tournaments. Participating teams must refrain from misuse of the radio communication equipment, with the understanding that any person(s) identified misusing the radio will be severely sanctioned both by SEMAR and the tournament committee.
- Any participating team caught committing any infraction considered grounds for disqualification will be automatically removed from the competition, as well as its individual members.
- Disqualification may be declared by “THE WEIGHING JUDGE” and/or by “THE OFFICIAL COMMITTEE.”
